Follow up: Dakine Recon backpack

I’ve noticed a bunch of people liking my post in which I explained how my Dakine Recon surf pack soaked up some coffee and it leached into my bag.

I emailed the customer service people and they kindly explained that it seems to be a fluke of epic proportions. That both of the times my bag absorbed the water/coffee it seemed very odd and they and I have no clue why it happened.

Since then I have kept my bag away from water/coffee/wet ground/ torrential downpours and it seems to be fine. I also scored a large luggage bag in the same pattern so my pack and my luggage match.

I still love my surf pack. And still choose Dakine despite my troubles with nature.

  • I’m ready for fall. I’m ready for jeans and fleeces. Especially since I just got a Patagonia fleece for half off. I hope it’s what I’m expecting [not too girly and super warm]. I’m usually a Columbia fleece wearer but they wear out bc I wear them out and it would be nice to have a ridiculously light and super warm one.
  • My Dad is worrying about the hurricane. He doesn’t think we’ve had super high winds before [I think we have] and so he’s busy freaking out and I’m like Dad chill, it’s going to rain and be windy but we will survive. He’s figuring out the generator situation as I type.

I am so tired of people telling me what I want.

It’s weird. Like for certain things I want others to tell me what’s best. But when I think I know what I want, why you gotta tell me otherwise? It seems impossible to me that you know what I want or what’s best when I don’t even know what I want.

Take for example this new computer I’m getting by the end of the year. My Gram thinks that this one she knows about is the best, since you can write on the screen like it’s a notebook and what not. While that might be great for her, I don’t think I want one. I want a macbook pro, I have for almost 5 years now. And still don’t have one. So I’ll give her other option a chance, but I think something’s are best done old school and a laptop is what I want.

I read because I want to write but distract myself far too much. I read because it’s what I’ve done since 1st grade and I don’t plan to stop any time soon. I read because writing something is easy, but writing something good is hard. Reading makes me feel like I’m working on writing without actually putting pen to the page.

What are you reading right now?

I’m between books so I’m curious. Any takers?

My plans have sort of changed, in my favor, without my knowledge of it happening.

I feel sort of like I’ve been swimming with goggles this whole while and suddenly I decided to take them off. With my eyes returning under water, they feel different, cold and fresh, a new sensation that I welcome. But it feels a little disorienting, because now I have this new feeling, but I can no longer see under the water like I once could.

Currently reading:

How They Met and Other Stories by David Levithan.

I read Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares and liked it, so I thought another one of his works would be good, and short stories are fun because they take 10 minutes each and then you can conveniently put the book down and move on, or not.

smogs replied to your post: I made the voyage back from CA to NY. I hate the… Amen to that…except I’m in CA and he’s in NY.

Yeah it’s pretty rough, but we can make it through.

I made the voyage back from CA to NY. I hate the in the middle state, the in transit time. The ends are much better than the middle, with the CA end being much more satisfying and worth the day of travel than the NY. While the NY has the creature comforts of home, the CA has the creature comforts of him. NY feels too normal, too familiar, like at times it’s totally fine and others I’m drowning and suffocating at the same time.

If only I could find a happy medium. All that comes to mind currently is to create the creature comforts in CA. That’s not a bad idea. Somewhere down this line called life I’ll have to move beyond the NY home that I’ve known and create a new more grown up space for myself, which may or may not be in CA, but will definitely include him.

I’ve been in California for a little over a week and have finished two books. 1 was Eat, Pray, Love and 2 was My Sister’s Keeper Which I finished in about 24 hours. I saw both of the films and liked the books better.
I am now in hot pursuit of a new book to read. Something to keep my attention and the pages turning but is also worth my cash to be on the kindle. Any suggestions?
